Puntland security forces have arrested a Yemeni national believed to be a member of ISIS militants following a planned operation carried out in the Tasjiic area of the Cal-Miskaad Mountains in the Bari region.
The operation, described as strategically coordinated, targeted locations suspected of harboring ISIS members. Security officials said the Yemeni suspect was captured at one of the group’s bases in the mountainous terrain, where Puntland forces have been conducting a series of ongoing operations in recent months.
Officers from the Puntland security forces told the media that the arrest of the foreign national is part of a broader campaign aimed at eliminating ISIS presence and ensuring overall security in the Bari region.
Security authorities noted that operations in the mountainous areas of Bari are now in their final stages. They stated that most of the militants’ hideouts and caves have been destroyed, significantly weakening the group’s operational capabilities in the area.
Puntland forces have previously carried out operations that resulted in the killing of several foreign ISIS members, while others were captured alive. According to officials, this reflects the group’s increasingly weakened state in the region.
