The Banadir Regional Court has officially announced the withdrawal of a previous arrest warrant issued against the President of Jubbaland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, widely known as Ahmed Madobe.
In a ruling released on Thursday, dated January 29, 2026, the court stated that the earlier arrest order against Ahmed Madobe had been nullified following a legal request and judicial review related to the case. The decision, according to the court, takes into account the current political situation and the ongoing dialogue between the Federal Government of Somalia and the leadership of Jubbaland.
The move is seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen political negotiations and ease tensions between Villa Somalia and the Jubbaland administration. However, the court document indicates that the Federal Government has not yet fully recognized Ahmed Madobe’s position as President of Jubbaland.
Meanwhile, the Jubbaland administration had previously issued its own arrest warrant against Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, a move that further escalated political tensions between the two sides.
The dispute stems from a long-running political conflict, particularly over election processes, power-sharing arrangements, and regional governance. Tensions had earlier escalated after federal forces were deployed to the Ras Kamboni area, where heavy clashes erupted. The fighting reportedly led to the capture of several soldiers, while others fled across the border into Kenya.
The court’s latest decision is expected to have significant implications for ongoing political talks aimed at resolving the standoff between the federal government and Jubbaland.
