Former National Security Adviser Fahad Yasin Speaks on Political Dialogue Between Government and Opposition

Fahad Yasin Haji Dahir, the former National Security Adviser under the administration of ex-President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, has weighed in on the country’s current political climate and the ongoing dialogue between the federal government and opposition leaders.

Fahad Yasin stated that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has the full right to make every possible effort to ensure the talks do not fail, noting that opposition figures have accepted the invitation for dialogue and traveled to the capital, Mogadishu, to participate in the discussions.

He emphasized that Villa Somalia, the presidential palace, is a legitimate venue for hosting the meeting. He warned that the opposition’s refusal to attend talks at Villa Somalia could have political repercussions that may affect the future of the dialogue process and erode mutual trust between the parties.

Fahad Yasin further cautioned that if the talks fail to produce a unifying political agreement, it could damage both the President’s credibility and the broader national cohesion.

“This meeting is a crucial opportunity to resolve political disputes. If it collapses, public confidence and the country’s stability will be at risk,” Fahad Yasin said.

His remarks come amid heightened political tensions between the federal government and opposition groups, with the dialogue widely expected to play a significant role in shaping Somalia’s political direction.
