Somalia’s opposition coalition, united under the umbrella of the Future Council, has called for the clear announcement of the venue for the upcoming national political consultation conference and for consensus on the country’s electoral framework.

In a statement issued following a lengthy meeting, the opposition stressed the importance of establishing an election model acceptable to all political stakeholders, warning that failure to do so could trigger fresh disputes and further political instability. They emphasized that lasting trust can only be built through open dialogue and a mutually agreed-upon process.

The group also said its internal consultations on the country’s political situation will continue, underscoring its commitment to seeking a durable solution to what it described as a critical national juncture and to safeguarding Somalia’s future.

Somalia’s broader political climate remains tense, with ongoing meetings and negotiations between government leaders and other political actors. Discussions have largely centered on contentious issues related to the electoral process and constitutional amendments.

According to information obtained by our sources, the Future Council has agreed not to participate in the conference if it is held at Villa Somalia, arguing that a neutral and mutually trusted venue is essential.

Sources close to opposition figures said their stance on the location is aimed at ensuring a transparent and credible dialogue environment, free from political suspicion or perceptions of bias.
